Be prepared for Hurricane Irma. This category 5 could come crashing across Florida, as it rages through the Atlantic coastline. Too often people find themselves unprepared, and scrambling to take cover. The Governor of Florida, Rick Scott is stating this storm could be “bigger than Hurricane Andrew”, which was also a category 5. There are currently three storms brewing across the Atlantic, Katia estimated at sustained winds of 45 mph is the tamest. Jose close to hurricane strength at 70 mph, and Irma, according to the National Hurricane Center is extremely dangerous with a core of category 5, and maximum sustained winds at 185 mph, passing over the Northernmost Virgin Islands.
An article in USA Today, citing, ‘Only one Atlantic hurricane on record, Allen in 1980, contained stronger winds, at 190 mph. The only Category 5 hurricanes to hit the U.S. are Andrew in 1992, Camille in 1969 and an unnamed storm in 1935’.
