As debates go, so far the Democratic Presidential hopefuls have not been too contentious towards one another when debating or being ask to comment on the others policies or would be scandals. During the February 4, 2016 Democratic Debate, moderated by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow, Senator Sanders reiterated his position with regards to questions about Secretary Clinton’s email challenges. Bernie simply refusing to ‘go there’, stating “There is a process underway, I will not politicize it”. In the same respect, when Secretary Clinton was ask if she wanted a thirty second rebuttal to comment on seemingly suspect tactics related to Sanders campaign, Hillary replied with a single, and powerfully telling one word response “No”.
The candidates’ position to leave certain topics that were not policy focused, or was an ongoing review off of the debate table was somewhat refreshing, as it left an opportunity for understanding of each candidate’s Presidential preparedness to take center stage. While there was some hard hitting defense of policy and accusations threatening qualifications or ability required to lead our country from both, they remained “Regally above the fray” as one reporter once said of former President Bill Clinton. As a voter, we should expect no less than a tough defense of the policies a candidate is holding themselves up to deliver to the American people. In order to defend your policies, you have to thoroughly understand them and how those policies impact citizens, and influence our overall global responsibility. Further, a candidate should have the ability to articulate what needs to happen to make their proposed policies actionable and attainable, in a way that is intelligibly feasible. Keep a close eye on that candidate.
