Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton addresses a group of Veterans at ‘The American Legion’ Convention Wednesday August 31, 2016. During her speech, Clinton made it a point to address the importance of knowing the distinction of dual roles as President, and Commander in Chief, siting “Whomever Americans elect this fall, won’t just be our next President, that person will be our next Commander and Chief”. Clinton went on to make a personal appeal to her audience of Veterans, adding “Every person in this room understands how great a responsibility that is”, a possible reference to her Foreign Policy experience and understanding of the importance of collaboration with Military leaders. During her speech, Clinton also made clear, should she be chosen as President of the United of America, she would be a President for all Americans, and understood that diverse group includes Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. For those who might not be able to envision civility amongst opposing Parties, Clinton recalls conversations and a lesson at the dinner table with her Republican Father, “We can disagree without being disagreeable”. Clinton’s overarching message for all Americans, “We need to unify our Country and go forward into the future with confidence and optimism”.
