The Democratic Women of Mecklenburg County, to lead the charge for the #WomensMarchOnWashington via Charlotte North Carolina. The march signifies the need to remain diligent. The Women’s March general statement for the ‘March On Washington’: “In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore.”
The Women’s March movement is rumored to be inspired by Hillary Clinton, and her body of work throughout her life in service and support of women’s rights. Her famous phrase was used throughout the Presidential campaign by followers and supporters and continues to be the battle cry for an ongoing movement, “Women’s rights are human rights”. While an important component of the movement is in support of equality for women, and in response to “The rhetoric of the past election cycle”, the Women’s March, is not just for women’s rights. The trending hashtag #WhyIMarch speaks to inequality anywhere, citing LGBT rights, Criminal Justice Reform, and Education Reform just to name a few statements offered by Women’s March. Supporters and participants of the movement cite Equality for Women, Voting Rights, and Civil Rights. While others saying it more plainly as to why they march. They march for Hillary Clinton, and advancing her cause and values millions of Americans championed and confirmed with their vote.
