VOTING RIGHTS A HISTORY-SUFFRAGIST

SUFFRAGIST , women’s rights advocates that fought tirelessly for women’s right to vote in the U.S. Ironically, many opposed the 15th amendment due to language in which “sex” was deliberately replaced by “previous condition of servitude,” that is, slavery. The 19th amendment that guaranteed women the right to vote was ratified August 18, 1920. Women of Color excluded, due to flaws in 14th/15th Amendments and other civil rights issues. Voting Rights Act signed into law August 6, 1965.
