Watch Trump’s second Impeachment Trial on C-SPAN-Live at 1-P.M. Eastern. The trial is to vote to convict Donald John Trump of inciting an insurrection that took place on January 6, 2021, against the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump supporters. The vote will also suffice to disqualify Trump from ‘‘hold[ing] any office . . .under the United States.’’
The Articles Of Impeachment are specific to “Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,’’ that occurred while Trump was a sitting and acting President. Therefore, the timeline which it takes to complete the Impeachment Trial has no barring on the fact that Trump is no longer in office serving as President.
To that end, any argument that suggests moving forward with any proceedings to Convict Trump is unconstitutional because he is now a Civilian, holds no logical or reasonable merit. The Constitution much like any laws, or regulations is subject to interpretation. That interpretation is generally based on whether an average individual would have a reasonable understanding of the intent. To be clear, that means the greater ‘Public’. According to ABCNew Polls, the majority of Americans polled believe Trump should be convicted. In essence, there should be accountability for the January 6, attack on a U.S. Capitol. That accountability, when you are a President, is addressed and specified by Articles of Impeachment.
